Alzheimer's Disease and Aspartame
"Today's AP story below discusses that certain protein deposits in the brains of Alzheimer's victims may be a cause of the mind-robbing disease, and that autopsies on 79 nursing home patients confirmed beta-amyloid protein plays a role in the earliest stages of Alzheimer's. James Bowen, MD, (719 332-0033) says that "aspartic acid is a major component of beta amyloid and aspartame is by weight 40% aspartic acid.
Consumers are fed a lot of aspartic acid and aspartic acid derivatives. NutraSweet is a potent chelating agent and the FDA banned it for years because it can carry toxic heavy metals like aluminum into the body. When Professor Jan Smith investigated this she was fired on the spot. The biochemical professor was ordered to scrap the procedure and never set it up again. It measured the amount of chelated aluminum from the can into the body. This is a very sensitive issue because the body rejects aluminum and will not absorb it, unless it is chelated. So the two major components of the plaque are provided by NutraSweet, and many recognize aluminum being contributory to Alzheimer's Disease. Moreover, in low dose studies in rats when they were exposed to low doses of formaldehyde vapor they developed what looked like Alzheimer Disease. When the rat brains were autopsied they found the classic histopathology of Alzheimer's Disease, neurofibrillary tangles and intercalated plaques. NutraSweet causes extreme aggravated formaldehyde poisoning and provides every major component known to exist in the structure of Alzheimer's Disease."
